They were watchful in the things of God;
They had only one God;
They had him as one only God;
They invoked him,
They pleaded to him.
His name was Quetzalcoatl.
And so respectful were they
In the things of God,
That everything that he said to them,
Their priest Quetzalcoatl,
They fulfilled it, they did not deform it.
He said to them, he instructed them:
“That unique God,
Quetzalcoatl is his name.
He demands nothing
But serpents, but butterflies,
That you must offer to him,
That you must sacrifice to him.”
