Verse 40

The movement of the Tao consists in Returning.

The use of the Tao consists in softness.

All things under Heaven are born of the corporeal:

The corporeal is born of the incorporeal.

Commentary: A very small part of us comes from the stars, a speck of Divinity. It is sent  from Heaven down to Earth and it’s mission in life is to Return. But our obsessive desires, our ignorance, our forgetfulness keep us trapped here. What we need cannot be grasped aggressively or demanded as our due returns. Try silence and humility. Try  a little love.

Chaos ensues from the Divine Mother, then fecundated by the Holy Spirit the world of objects is created and sustained.

When one identifies himself with the different events of life, he makes many mistakes. If one identifies himself with a drink that a drunken friend offers to him, he ends up drunk. If one identifies himself with a person of the opposite sex, then he ends up fornicating. If one identifies himself with an insulter’s words, then one ends up insulting them back.
